Overview
Hale Village is a £400m mixed use development in Tottenham. United House consulted RIW when waterproofing the extensive podium deck.
Architect: BDP
Main Contractor: United House
RIW Specialist Contractor: Cemplas
Principle Application: Podium Decks
Products Used: RIW Cementseal, RIW Cementfill HB, RIW Cementjoint
The Challenge
The project included multiple pedestrian walkways and landscape features above the car parking areas of this large complex. During the construction period, the podium waterproofing below the walkways needed to withstand heavy vehicular traffic and subsequent footfall from pedestrians. The waterproofing solution had to accomodate the numerous movement joints situated in the concrete deck and up-stands, prior to paving and render finishes being applied. RIW were tasked to provide a seamless, one-point-of-responsibility waterproofiing solution.
The Solution
RIW Cementseal was recommended due to its excellent ability to adhere to a prepared concrete substrate, ultimately forming a integral bond to the parent concrete on both horizontal and vertical surfaces. A significant characteristic of RIW Cementseal is its ability to be applied to a damp surface, removing the need for time-consuming drying of the substrate prior to application. This feature, on such an open site, combined with resistance to abrasion and impact and the quick drying time, allowed the construction programme to remain on schedule with minimal risk of post-application damage.
The selection of RIW Cementseal resulted in a cost-effective waterproofiing solution for such a large area; an obviously significant consideration for the project team.
